Info2cell
offers wireless hosting
Info2cell builds $ 2.5 million WAP hosting facility in Dubai Internet
City
Info2cell has invested $ 2.5 million in a wireless hosting data
centre in Dubai Internet City. Corporate that wish to deliver information
and services to users of WAP-enabled cell phones will be able to
make use of the facility and Info2cell's software development services.
Info2cell's hosting services utilise back-end technology that was
originally developed in-house by Info2cell. That work has been built
upon through Info2cell's relationship with European wireless portal
leader that acquired one-third of Info2cell late last year.
The move towards the corporate hosting market marks departure from
Info2cell.com's earlier status as a generic content portal that
provided data in Web, WAP and SMS formats. That portal, according
to CEO Bashar Dahabra, was always designed to demonstrate the depth
and quality of content the company was capable of delivering. "It
was never the prime business driver for the operation," he
says.
Info2cell is hardly leaving the content delivery business, however,
the company has a body of content, created in partnership with a
number of newswires and Middle East publishers like ITP. Net and
BBCArabic.com. Users can still access that content via Web, WAP,
SMS and voice b subscribing at myinfo2cell.com.
Info2cell will profit from that content, however, through partnerships
with a network of GSM operators in the Middle East. Info2cell gives
operators content which, they absorb into their own branded WAP
offerings, and in return Info2cell receives a cut of the operator's
call fees.
