Dubex and Info2cell to bring
UAE capital market information to mobile users via SMS and WAP
Dubai, 25th September, 2000
Info2cell, the Middle East’s pioneering mobile
information provider today announced an agreement that will bring
‘any time, anyplace, anywhere’ delivery of UAE capital market information
direct to mobile market watchers. Dubex Securities International,
the Dubai based brokers and clearing members on DFM, will be providing
Info2cell with real time capital market data directly from Dubex’s
real time quotes and series of market indexes. Info2cell will
provide access to this data via SMS, WAP and the Web. “This
is great news for investors all over our region. They can now be
immediately informed with any changes in UAE’s capital market indexes
wherever they are and at any time,” said Tamim Rifai, general manager
of Dubex. “This type of information is extremely time-critical and
having access to it from mobile phones will empower investors to
manage their investment portfolios more effectively.”
Info2cell’s subscribers and service users now
have access to real time UAE’s Capital market information, indexes
and major economic indicators pertaining to Gulf region from a reputable,
reliable and licensed source.
“Dubex feeds our mobile portal with its up-to-the-minute
stock market quotes, Dubex’s capital market indexes, OTC securities
prices and equity flashes,” We instantly deliver it to users through
SMS, WAP and the Web,” said Bashar Dahabra, chief executive officer
of Info2cell.
Dubex Securities International holds the most comprehensive
stock market index in the UAE in addition to several capital market
indexes that are industry focused. Dubex also supplies investors
with stock prices related ratios such as dividend yield, price to
earnings and debt ratios. Info2cell is making this whole range
of indexes and ratios accessible to users through SMS, WAP and through
Info2cell WEB Portal located at www.Info2cell
Using Info2cell’s mobile information portal, SMS
subscribers set SMS triggers against movements in capital market
information, such as stock prices, volume trading and index movements.
Depending on the subscribers’ interests and self designed profile,
when changes in the capital market occur, Info2cell instantly
informs them by sending SMSs directly to their mobile phones. “For
example, investors and market watchers will be able to receive SMSs
on their mobiles informing them when any stock of the 48 publicly
listed companies in the UAE moves up or down, or when any of the
listed stocks is
traded above or below a certain volume that investors
themselves choose,” explained Dahabra. SMS – Short Message Service
– is a technology that allows subscribers to receive text messages
sent by info2cell to their mobiles to advise them of new information.
Subscribers can then react to the information by using their WAP
(wireless application protocol) Mobiles to access the Internet and
gain more in-depth information on the situation as it occurs.
Capital market information will be accessible to WAP-enabled
mobile users through Info2cell’s mobile portal. This means that
investors in the UAE will have real time capital market data that
matters to them the most, delivered to their fingertips, wherever
they are in the world.” WAP - Wireless Application Protocol - is
a technology that allows individuals to access the internet from
their mobile phones. Through WAP-enabled mobile phones, users can
access sites on the Internet that carry suitable time and location-sensitive
content that fits the small screens of mobile devices, such as Info2cell
WAP portal site located at wap.Info2cell.
For ease of use and in an effort to enhance the presentation
of information, users will also be able to access the Dubex’s market
and key indexes in a graphically format through their WAP-enabled
phones. The graphical charts will be created by Info2cell Mobile
Portal on the fly and will provide 1 week, 1 month and 3 month historical
views of the data as desired by the user.
“The real benefit of financial mobile information
service is to deliver the needed information at the right time;
time sensitive information such as stock prices and volumes of stocks
traded triggers more trading and therefore brings more economic
value to the whole economy of the GCC,” said Dahabra. “Flexibility
and convenience in accessing real time financial data can boost
investment to, and trading in, our markets.”
